Before diving in, a quick note to all Luv' fans: An interview with Matt Pop, the brilliant remixer behind "Only Luv': The Matt Pop Remixes", is absolutely on the way. But before we get there, I wanted to take a moment to spotlight another key contributor to this exciting Luv' revival: Ladies on Mars. Both artists played unique roles in shaping the sound of Luv' in 2025, and it's only fair to give each their moment to shine. So, thank you for your patience; Matt Pop's turn is coming soon!

2025 is an exciting year for Luv' fans, marked by the long-awaited reissue of their 1994 album "All You Need Is Luv'" on CD, vinyl, and digital platforms, thanks to the initiative of Casper Janssen. Additionally, the release of "Only Luv': The Matt Pop Remixes", a new remix album spearheaded by Peter Boonstra, added another thrilling chapter to Luv's musical legacy.

The reissue of "All You Need Is Luv'", released on March 14, 2025, arrived as a "Remastered & Expanded Edition", featuring the original album on CD 1 and a suite of Ladies on Mars remixes on CD 2.

In anticipation of this reissue, seven Ladies on Mars remixes were released as digital singles between October 2024 and March 2025:

• November 15, 2024 – Don't Stop Now (Ladies on Mars Remix)

• November 29, 2024 – Don't Stop Now (Ladies on Mars Extended Remix)

• January 31, 2025 – You're the Greatest Lover (Ladies on Mars Re-Construction Extended Mix)

• February 21, 2025 – Let's Go to the Paradise of Love (Ladies on Mars Remix)

• March 13, 2025 – Let's Go to the Paradise of Love (Ladies on Mars Extended Remix)

To top it all off, "All You Need Is Luv' – Remastered & Expanded Edition" was reissued as a limited-edition pink and blue vinyl exclusively for Record Store Day 2025 on April 12.

As a tribute to his creativity and distinct style, I had the pleasure of interviewing Jonathan Douglas Braverman, better known as Ladies on Mars, a DJ and producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina. His nu-disco remixes have brought a fresh and vibrant twist to several beloved Luv' tracks.

Ralph: When and how did you start your career in music?

Jonathan: I started producing, or instead, became interested in it in the late 90s, specifically in 1998, when I began experimenting with my sister's computer, which was a Compaq Presario 486, if I recall correctly. However, it wasn't until 2003 that I decided to change my major (at the time, I was studying Industrial Design) to pursue Electroacoustic Arts Production, which was the closest degree to what I wanted to study, as there was no "Music Producer" degree available at the time. I knew I wanted to remix songs, do covers, and, of course, also make music. It wasn't until late 2005 and early 2006 that I decided to create my pseudonym, Ladies On Mars. At that time, my sound was minimal tech, characterised by minimal and experimental techno, far removed from the Ladies On Mars sound we know today. However, as the years passed and my personal and professional evolution progressed, my sound evolved as well.

Ralph: Who are your musical heroes?

Jonathan: My musical idols changed as my professional career progressed. But my true hero has always been Michael Jackson. I've been a massive fan of his music, sound, and vision since I was 5 years old. Another of my musical idols is, of course, Purple Disco Machine. His sound, along with Dr. Packer's, was what encouraged me to create the Ladies On Mars sound you know today and to do remixes and reworks of classic songs! I also really like Patrick Cowley (although I only discovered his sound later in life) and Sylvester. I love his voice! I can't get tired of listening to him.

Ralph: What do you consider to be your best DJ sets or music moments throughout your career?

Jonathan: It's a difficult question to answer, as I feel like my career is constantly evolving. I think the best musical moment is always the one that will come, and I don't know which one that will be. The uncertainty of tomorrow is, in part, what inspires me to strive for improvement and do more. But I've had wonderful moments, like when I went to play in England and played alongside one of my idols, Dr. Packer, at the Sweet Sensation party in Bournemouth. It was wonderful sharing the booth with one of my idols. It was also in 2019 when I did the warm-up and closing set for Purple Disco Machine here in Argentina. I also played alongside Michael Gray twice in England, sharing the booth with him—he's a great booth partner and an excellent person.

Production-wise, I think it was the first time I was asked to remix Donna Summer officially, and the surprise was that I was only going to do one remix, and I ended up producing half the album! It was wonderful!

Ralph: How did you connect with Casper Janssen, the initiator of the "All You Need Is Luv' (Remastered and Expanded Edition)" project?

Jonathan: Regarding how I got in touch with Casper, it's funny, but it was thanks to the pandemic! Before the pandemic, I didn't really do much reworking. Then the pandemic hit, and all my dates were cancelled; I was working solely as a DJ/Producer. At the time, my primary source of income was DJing, playing in clubs, bars, and private parties. That's when I felt like my world had fallen apart. I was depressed for a few days, sleeping and thinking about what I could do to boost my career and, obviously, start earning money to pay my bills. That's when it occurred to me to do reworks: one rework per week. I designed the graphics, created videos to attract attention, and uploaded them to YouTube. I also made posts on Facebook and Instagram, trying to get everyone to see them. As a result, I ended up doing four reworks per week. I remember getting up at 7:30 a.m. and being in front of the computer by 8 a.m., every single day of the week, until 10 p.m.. Suddenly, I realized that my fans grew, that my name grew a lot and that I caught the attention of Casper Jansen, who one day sent me an email telling me how grateful he was to find my sound and that he loved what I was doing, that he had been listening to my reworks and thought they were fabulous and that he wanted to work with me. First, I started producing songs for Casper Jansen (known as Dennis Jones). In one of the many emails we exchanged, he told me: "How great it would be if you could officially remix Donna Summer" and I thought he was joking, and that's when he said, "no, I'm very good friends with Michael Neidus from Demon Music who is in charge of her catalog". At the time, he told me that he was thinking of re-releasing an album from a Dutch girl group: "Luv'" and that he wanted me to be in the project, to be part of the project. At that time, I had never heard of "Luv'", Casper very kindly told me the history of the group and made me familiarize myself with their entire discography, which, by the way, surprised me for the better because of how good they were (are). He told me that he wanted to re-release their last studio album from the 90s. He made me listen to it and asked, "What song do you feel like or would like to remix?" And that's when we began discussing the project in more detail. And, well, I ended up doing more than one remix! At first, I was only going to do the remix of "Medley", "Don't Stop Now", and "Let's Go To The Paradise Of Love", and at the last minute, they added "You're The Greatest Lover".

Ralph: Were you familiar with Luv's music before collaborating with Casper?

Jonathan: No, not at all. However, Casper was kind enough to share the story with me and mentioned that they had a hit in Argentina in 1979, "Trojan Horse" (the same year I was born). He also kindly made sure to let me listen to their entire psychedelic collection. That's how I began to learn about Luv' and enjoy their music.

Ralph: Did you know that Luv' once entered the Argentinian Top 10 in 1979 with "Trojan Horse"? The Luv' ladies were a one-hit wonder in your country, unlike in Europe, where they achieved more hits.

Jonathan: Yes, Casper told me that, amazing! It’s incredible that, with my remixes, I’m now part of the Luv history and legacy! That makes me proud.

Ralph: Which Luv' remix of yours is your favourite?

Jonathan: My favourite Luv' remix I did is definitely "You're The Greatest Lover", which has more of the actual sound of Ladies On Mars because it's newer! And the chorus is just fantastic and very groovy, inviting you to dance and sing with the Luv' girls!

Ralph: What are your current updates?

Jonathan: Well, I'm not sure if you're aware, but I've been hosting a weekly radio show called "FEVERBALL Radio Show" for several years now. For those who don't know, it's a 2-hour show where you can listen to the best of nu-disco, disco, house, and the best reworks of all time, mixed by me and guest artists. I'm already on show number 290, and will soon reach 300 shows. Additionally, "FEVERBALL" is the name of my own digital record label, which I hope to one day release tracks in CD and vinyl formats, a dream of mine. And it's also a party that I'm planning to host once a month. Last month, we conducted a pilot test, and we're now considering hosting a second one in June. Regarding production, I'm finishing my first Nu-Disco album, which will be called "DISCOLAND". I'm almost done. I'd like to complete one or two more tracks for this album. Additionally, I'm already working on the demos for my second Nu-Disco album, which I plan to release next year. This one will be a bit different, featuring more songs and a greater emphasis on lyrics. At the same time, I'm finishing the production of an album with the German DJ and producer Martina Budde, and it's going to be a fantastic album! Only 2/3 of the tracks remain to be finished. This album will have a slightly more Soulful House sound, not so much Nu-Disco as the sound I have with Ladies On Mars. We are very happy and excited about this project with Martina. The first single from the album, "LOVE FEVER", which has been available since May 23 in all stores, is a collaboration we did with the singer "Angie Bee". It was terrific to work with Angie; she has an incredible voice and energy! And she was very patient with me, as the song and project were somewhat delayed due to some personal situations I was going through this year and last year.

Ralph: What are your future plans?

Jonathan:  My future plans are to make my radio show "Feverball Radio Show" something more massive; for now, I have reached 18 radio stations around the world (Argentina, UK, Brazil, France, Holland, Germany). I would like to expand my reach to more countries and radio stations around the world, including Argentina, in the coming years to help my Feverball label continue to grow. I want to embark on a "Feverball" tour, where I can travel the world with the sound concept of my label and radio show. I would also love to continue remixing Luv' and great artists in the near future. I would also like to continue working with Casper and perform some live shows with him. I think we would make a great duo together! What is certain is that Ladies On Mars will be around for a while!

Ralph: ¿Cuándo y cómo comenzaste tu carrera en la música?

Jonathan: Empecé a producir, o mejor dicho, a interesarme por la producción musical a finales de los años 90, específicamente en 1998, cuando comencé a experimentar con la computadora de mi hermana, que era una Compaq Presario 486, si no me falla la memoria. Sin embargo, no fue hasta 2003 que decidí cambiar mi carrera (en ese momento estudiaba Diseño Industrial) para dedicarme a Producción de Artes Electroacústicas, que era lo más parecido a lo que yo quería estudiar, ya que en aquel entonces no existía la carrera de “Productor Musical”. Yo sabía que quería hacer remixes, covers y, por supuesto, también música. No fue sino hasta finales de 2005 y principios de 2006 que decidí crear mi seudónimo: Ladies On Mars. En ese momento, mi sonido era minimal tech, caracterizado por techno minimalista y experimental, muy alejado del sonido que hoy conocemos de Ladies On Mars. Pero, con el paso de los años y la evolución tanto personal como profesional, también evolucionó mi sonido.

Ralph: ¿Quiénes son tus héroes musicales?

Jonathan: Mis ídolos musicales fueron cambiando a medida que avanzaba mi carrera profesional. Pero mi verdadero héroe siempre ha sido Michael Jackson. Soy fan de su música, su sonido y su visión desde que tenía 5 años. Otro de mis ídolos es, por supuesto, Purple Disco Machine. Su sonido, junto con el de Dr. Packer, fue lo que me inspiró a crear el sonido actual de Ladies On Mars y a hacer remixes y reworks de canciones clásicas. También me gusta mucho Patrick Cowley (aunque descubrí su música más adelante) y Sylvester. ¡Amo su voz! ¡Nunca me canso de escucharlo!

Ralph: ¿Cuáles consideras que han sido tus mejores sets o momentos musicales en tu carrera?

Jonathan: Es difícil responder, ya que siento que mi carrera está en constante evolución. Creo que el mejor momento musical siempre es el que está por venir, y no sé cuál será. La incertidumbre del mañana es, en parte, lo que me impulsa a seguir mejorando. Pero he vivido momentos maravillosos, como cuando fui a tocar a Inglaterra junto a uno de mis ídolos, Dr. Packer, en la fiesta Sweet Sensation en Bournemouth. Fue genial compartir cabina con él. También en 2019, cuando hice el warm-up y el cierre de Purple Disco Machine en Argentina. Y compartí cabina dos veces con Michael Gray en Inglaterra. ¡Un excelente colega y gran persona!

En cuanto a producción, uno de los momentos más importantes fue cuando me pidieron oficialmente remixar a Donna Summer. Al principio iba a hacer un solo remix… ¡y terminé produciendo medio álbum! Fue increíble.

Ralph: ¿Cómo te conectaste con Casper Janssen, el iniciador del proyecto "All You Need Is Luv' (Remastered and Expanded Edition)"?

Jonathan: En cuanto a cómo conocí a Casper, ¡es curioso, pero fue gracias a la pandemia! Antes de la pandemia, realmente no hacía muchos reworks. Luego llegó la pandemia y se cancelaron todas mis fechas; trabajaba únicamente como DJ/Productor. En ese momento, mi principal fuente de ingresos era ser DJ, tocando en clubes, bares y fiestas privadas. Fue entonces cuando sentí que mi mundo se venía abajo. También hacía publicaciones en Facebook e Instagram, tratando de que todos los vieran. Como resultado, terminé haciendo cuatro reworks por semana. Recuerdo que me levantaba a las 7:30 a.m. y ya a las 8 a.m. estaba frente a la computadora, todos los días de la semana, hasta las 10 p.m. De repente, me di cuenta de que crecían mis fans, que mi nombre empezaba a sonar mucho, y que había llamado la atención de Casper Jansen, quien un día me envió un correo diciéndome lo agradecido que estaba de haber encontrado mi sonido y que le encantaba lo que estaba haciendo, que había estado escuchando mis reworks y le parecían fabulosos, y que quería trabajar conmigo. Primero, empecé a producir canciones para Casper Jansen (conocido como Dennis Jones). En uno de los muchos correos que intercambiamos, me dijo: “Qué bueno sería que pudieras hacer un remix oficial de Donna Summer”, y pensé que estaba bromeando, pero fue entonces cuando me dijo: “no, soy muy buen amigo de Michael Neidus de Demon Music, quien está a cargo de su catálogo”. En ese momento, me comentó que estaba pensando en relanzar un álbum de un grupo femenino holandés: Luv', y que quería que yo estuviera en el proyecto, que formara parte del proyecto. En ese entonces, yo nunca había oído hablar de Luv', y Casper muy amablemente me contó la historia del grupo y me hizo familiarizarme con toda su discografía, que, por cierto, me sorprendió gratamente por lo buenas que eran (son). Me dijo que quería relanzar su último álbum de estudio de los años 90. Me lo hizo escuchar y me preguntó: “¿Qué canción te gustaría remezclar o con cuál te animás?”. Y fue ahí cuando empezamos a hablar del proyecto en más detalle. Y, bueno, ¡terminé haciendo más de un remix! Al principio, solo iba a hacer el remix de "Medley", "Don't Stop Now" y "Let's Go To The Paradise Of Love", y a último momento, añadieron "You're The Greatest Lover".

Ralph: ¿Ya conocías la música de Luv' antes de colaborar con Casper?

Jonathan: No, para nada. Pero Casper fue muy generoso y me compartió la historia del grupo. Me contó que en Argentina tuvieron un éxito en 1979 con “Trojan Horse (Caballo de Troya)” —¡el mismo año en que nací!—. También se aseguró de hacerme escuchar toda su colección psicodélica. Así fue como me fui familiarizando con su música y comencé a disfrutarla.

Ralph: ¿Sabías que Luv' llegó al Top 10 argentino en 1979 con “Trojan Horse (Caballo de Troya)”? Fueron un one-hit wonder en tu país, a diferencia de Europa donde tuvieron más éxitos.

Jonathan: ¡Sí! Casper me lo contó, ¡increíble! Y pensar que ahora, con mis remixes, soy parte de la historia y del legado de Luv'. ¡Eso me llena de orgullo!

Ralph: ¿Cuál es tu remix favorito de Luv'?

Jonathan: Mi favorito es definitivamente “You’re The Greatest Lover” (Eres Mi Mejor Amante), que tiene más del sonido actual de Ladies On Mars, ya que es el más reciente. ¡Y ese estribillo es espectacular, muy bailable y pegajoso! ¡Te invita a cantar y a bailar junto con las chicas de Luv'!

Ralph: ¿Qué estás haciendo actualmente?

Jonathan: Bueno, no estoy seguro si lo sabías, pero he estado conduciendo un programa de radio semanal llamado "FEVERBALL Radio Show" desde hace varios años, ¡y ya voy por el programa número 290! Para quienes no lo conocen, es un show de 2 horas donde pueden escuchar lo mejor del nu-disco, disco, house y los mejores reworks de todos los tiempos, mezclados por mí y artistas invitados. ¡Ya voy por el programa número 290, y pronto llegaré a los 300 shows!

Además, "FEVERBALL" es el nombre de mi propio sello discográfico digital, con el que espero algún día lanzar temas en formato CD y vinilo, un sueño que tengo. Y también es una fiesta que estoy planeando organizar una vez al mes. El mes pasado hicimos una prueba piloto, y ahora estamos considerando hacer una segunda en junio.

En cuanto a producción, estoy terminando mi primer álbum de Nu-Disco, que se llamará "DISCOLAND". Estoy casi listo. Me gustaría terminar 1 o 2 temas más para este álbum. También ya estoy trabajando en las maquetas de mi segundo álbum de Nu-Disco que planeo lanzar el próximo año, y este va a ser un poco más diferente, tendrá más canciones y muchas letras.

Al mismo tiempo, estoy finalizando la producción de un álbum con la DJ y productora alemana Martina Budde, ¡y va a ser un álbum fantástico! Solo quedan por terminar 2/3 de los temas. Este álbum tendrá un sonido un poco más Soulful House, no tan Nu-Disco como el sonido que tengo con Ladies On Mars. Estamos muy contentos y emocionados con este proyecto con Martina.

El primer sencillo del álbum, "LOVE FEVER", que está disponible desde el 23 de mayo en todas las tiendas, es una colaboración que hicimos con la cantante Angie Bee. ¡Fue maravilloso trabajar con Angie; tiene una voz y una energía increíbles! Y fue muy paciente conmigo, ya que la canción y el proyecto se retrasaron un poco debido a algunas situaciones personales por las que estuve pasando este año y el año pasado.

Ralph: ¿Qué planes tienes para el futuro?

Jonathan: Mis planes a futuro son hacer que mi programa de radio "Feverball Radio Show" sea algo más masivo; por ahora, he llegado a 18 estaciones de radio en todo el mundo (Argentina, Reino Unido, Brasil, Francia, Holanda, Alemania). Me gustaría expandir mi alcance a más países y emisoras de radio alrededor del mundo, incluida Argentina, en los próximos años, para ayudar a que mi sello Feverball siga creciendo. Quiero embarcarme en una gira "Feverball", donde pueda recorrer el mundo con el concepto sonoro de mi sello y programa de radio.
